Organizing Products I’m Using in Small Spaces of My New Home
These organizing products will help make your small spaces functional.
This is the over-door mirror I forgot at my old place. Over-door mirrors are the best for easy install.
I recently moved, and as you can imagine there’s been lots to do, not the least of which is trying to make my new home functional. That can be tricky with small, shared spaces. In my new home, the tiny bathrooms with no counter space and the entryway closet have been the two spaces that have needed the most adjusting to work for all of us. I’ve been sourcing a variety of organizational products on Amazon to make them work, and I thought I’d share these useful products with you for your small, cramped spaces.

Storage Bins
The first thing I needed to source was storage bins for my summer clothes. My new closet and room are tiny, so I’m saving space by storing off-season items in the attic. Cardboard boxes won’t cut it because the attic isn’t climate-controlled and is prone to mice. I like these Sterilite ones because they’re sturdy and seal completely. I got them at Walmart so I could test out myself which ones would be sturdiest, and I plan to buy this 6-pack on Amazon for the linens and pillows I used for packing protection in my moving boxes. I chose the 27 quart ones because they’ll be easier to manage both weight wise and fitting them in odd spaces under the eaves. I also plan to buy bigger ones for my blankets and big comforter once I can get to the laundromat to clean it (won’t fit in the new smaller, front-load washer I’m now using).
3-Cube Bookshelf
We’re using two 3-cube bookshelves that we already had. One is on the floor of the entryway closet for my shoes and the other next to the tiny powder room sink with no counter space. Now I’m no longer balancing my things on a 2 inch lip.
Mini Storage Shelf
The cube shelf above worked for the powder room, but the main bathroom has a very tiny space available, so we are getting this well-rated mini storage shelf. It has space to store things and a tiny bit of counter space. We plan to use the toilet paper dispenser for extra storage instead.
Over the Door Shoe + Accessory Organizer
We got this over-the-door shoes and accessory organizer for the entryway closet. I had the same one in my previous place. I chose one with plastic pockets because I put the shoes that didn’t fit on the closet floor in the bottom two rows and don’t want dirt and water to drop on anything else. The other 4 rows are being used for our hats and gloves.
Over-Door Towel Rack
I have a couple of over-door towel racks. I’m using one of them on the inside of my clothes closet for my robe, hats, and handbags. The other will be used for guests’ towels when they visit. Before purchasing an over-the-door product, check to make sure there’s a gap above the door and in the door jam. Some of the doors I wanted to use won’t work because they have a good seal. We’ve had to affix a towel rack to the bathroom door because of this.
Over-Door Cabinet Towel Bar
I have an over-cabinet door kitchen towel rod. It makes the kitchen towel so much more accessible with it right there at the sink. If you’re interested in a kitchen towel holder, I like the sleek look of this one.
Under-Bed Storage Container
I have a few under-bed containers for extra storage. One of them is flexible like this one, so I’ll be able to fit it in the extra space left over by the other containers. Here’s a flexible one on Amazon that’s popular.
Over-Door Mirror
I had an over-door mirror, but it was one of the few things I forgot in Virginia. I plan to purchase this one for my closet door. I love over-door mirrors. I’ve moved 8 times, and one of the things I hated most was hanging my full-length mirror. Or rather my brother hated it most since I always managed to convince him to do it because it involved drilling holes. It was a pain, and in the end, the mirror would inevitably be warped. When I discovered the over-door variety I was thrilled, and my brother even more so. I usually recommend a mirror with jewelry storage, but I have the clear, zipped pocket jewelry organizers that I hang from my closet hanging bar for my jewelry so I don’t need the jewelry storage.
Bonus Recommendation: Car Handle Assist
I know this seems out of place on this list, but this little gizmo has saved the day more than once when my mom’s back has given out, including one such incident recently. It helps her get in and out of the car by giving her something sturdy to hold on to. I hold the door in place for her other hand. Unfortunately, it’s not great for the backseat of a van with sliding doors because it sits too far behind the door, at least in my parents’ van. It’s too bad, my aunt could have used it when we went to lunch the other day.
